About Us

We have the benefit of shared references and mutual experiences, but we never knew each other until we moved beyond them and returned to San Antonio. Stephen and I graduated from Alamo Heights Junior School in 1994 and Alamo Heights High School in 1998. Between 1998 and 2010, Stephen graduated from TCU in Fort Worth, the Creative Circus in Atlanta, and moved to San Francisco. I graduated from Davidson College in North Carolina, moved to Japan for a year, and then to Chicago. In 2010, Stephen and I independently decided to move back to San Antonio. Another recently returned friend organized drinks, but no one showed up except for us! Stephen walked into the Bombay Bicycle Club wearing a black t-shirt and San Francisco skinny jeans and for a couple of hours I used all my best material on him. It was only when we left and he gave me a too-enthusiastic goodbye hug that I realized he also liked me. Since that night in September 2010, we’ve spent Christmas in Rome, moved to Seattle, I’ve almost finished a law degree, Stephen’s learned to climb mountains, and we’ve realized that our connections are stronger than we could have guessed.

One person we’ll miss in September is Caroline Gose, Stephen’s sister and a dear friend of my brother Graham.

Activities

The Sleeping Lady is located just outside of Leavenworth, Washington. Both Sleeping Lady and Leavenworth have a long and storied history as the sites of Native American communities, the railroad, and the Army Corp of Engineers, and now as an environmental lodge and a mock Bavarian village.

Leavenworth was officially incorporated on September 5, 1906. A small timber community, the city struggled until 1962, when the Project LIFE (Leavenworth Improvement For Everyone) Committee transformed the city into a mock village to revitalize its economy. Leavenworth is now home to the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum, which contains more than 5,000 nutcrackers, and hosts numerous celebrations throughout the year, including Oktoberfest and German Christmas. Leavenworth and the Wenatchee Valley offer a wealth of adventures and activities year-round.

Wine Tasting

Bordered by the towering Cascade Mountains to the west and sagebrush covered hills to the east, vineyards and wineries are rapidly appearing throughout the area. The winemakers of this area have joined together in the belief that the influence of the Cascade Mountains and the broad rivers and lakes make the region unique amongst Washington State's winegrowing regions. In recognition of this they are calling the area the Columbia Cascade region.

Museums

The Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum contains 6,000 Nutcrackers dating back 500 years while the Upper Valley Historical Society preserves and displays artifacts of the Upper Wenatchee Valley and presents historic programming to students, residents and visitors to Leavenworth.

Whitewater Rafting

The Wenatchee River, a Class III river, is Washington's most popular for river trips. The season typically runs from April to August. Recommended local rafting companies include Orion Expeditions and Osprey Rafting Company.

Fishing

A variety of fishing opportunities are available in the area, including trout fishing in the mountain lakes. Fly fishing instruction is available in Leavenworth. Fishing licenses are available at Der Sportsmann in Leavenworth.
